Josh Jones might go to Cincy at #33 to start Round 2 - he's the top player available on many boards out there and Cincy does need protection for Burrow. They have a returning Jonah Williams and then Josh Jones - should give them solid bookends, although both need a year since Jonah redshirted 2019 due to injury. And then you're left w/ Ezra who I agree will not see the 50's, IMO. I get the feeling that we're seeing 2018 all over again when all the tea leaves were there for the runs on OL prospects and the Vikes didn't think that would happen and they sort of lucked out w/ O'Neill at the backend of the round. The cost to trade up into Ezra or Madubuike range is likely going to cost us #89 and we lose a valuable Day 2 pick (I think it's valuable to this team right now anyway). Interesting look back to how a lot of us felt prior to the draft. It was unbelievable that we had both Jones and Cleveland to choose from. I was really happy they were both there, because I now know that we got the one who we felt was more valuable.

Just a recent blurb on Clowney:
Dianna Russini @diannaespn I'm told the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans are still interested in Jadeveon Clowney. Both teams have made multiple offers, but nothing that matches Clowney's desired price tag. Sources believe "he is just not in a hurry to sign".
This isn't so much that the Vikings are interested in Clowney as much as it is the possibility of Everson signing back with Minnesota. The general line of thought with regards to Everson was that he would be signed after Clowney once the market was established, but now that Clowney's signing with whomever doesn't appear to be imminent, perhaps Everson should consider signing back w/ Minnesota for what they initially offered or maybe a bit less.
Also, I don't think the Vikings should sign Everson to play DE again - I'd like to give Odenigbo a chance at starting rotational snaps to see how he does. We've had recent discussions regarding Zimmer perhaps not allowing enough younger players the opportunity to start to see how they could do...well, this is an opportunity for Ifeadi. And because Everson did so well getting pressure up the middle in the New Orleans playoff game, I'm intrigued at the possibility of having him play in the interior next to Pierce at 3T and dumping Shamar and Holmes - both of whom just aren't getting enough pressure applied consistently. An interior rotation of Pierce, Griffin, Jaleel, Watts and Lynch (maybe Hercules if they decide to keep 6 DT) seems better to me than Shamar and Holmes in there. Griffin can also shoot outside to DE in case Hunter or Odenigbo get injured, too. With the money we save in releasing Shamar (post-June 1st release designation) and Holmes (not much for him), that hopefully can help w/ getting Griffin back in well within cap constraints for 2020.
Just a thought...

I agree with a lot of those sentiments...I want to see what Odenigbo can do full-time. No way we know this, if do not give him the chance, and what he has done in limited time has more than earned him that opportunity. I feel similarly about Watts longterm, if they have made fans by their sound play in limited action, then what could they do in full-time? It is not a guarentee of becoming some elite player...but why would you not at least want to see if they could maintain those levels of play?

Watts was drafted in 2019, so he's here for 2020, 2021 & 2022 on a really cheap rookie contract (drafted late in 2019). Lynch is here through 2023 on a cheap, rookie contract (4th rd contract price). If we give Everson a 2-yr deal (for 2020 & 2021) w/ an option for a 3rd, that still gives Watts and Lynch a chance to earn the starting 3T job in 2022, Watts will be on the last year of his rookie contract and Lynch will be on Year 3.
That seems like the best deal for the Vikings...just not sure if Everson wants to go for that, or if he's looking for something a bit more long-term (maybe 3-4 year length) and more guaranteed money.
Plus, I'm not sure if the defensive coaches see Griffin as a full-time interior DT player - it's just something I speculated on given Griffin's performance during that playoff game in New Orleans. Maybe he might not do well on the interior and is purely a 4-3 DE only...not sure...

Well, at least at DT, we have a few options, (even if the third round did not go as planned)...but why we ate not bringing in an OG...there are a few guys that at the very least would be an upgrade over you-know-who.

I made a comment on Warford in a dedicated-Warford thread. in short, he's not a great fit for the Vikings - too expensive (given they made a similar investment in Kline last offseason and cut him after just 1 season and Kline isn't that far removed from Warford) and not a good fit for outside zone blocking (he's more nimble that able to pull solidly and get to 2nd level effectively).

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler think the Vikings would be a good fit for now free agent WR Taylor Gabriel (formerly of Chicago) link: “Minnesota could use an infusion of speed, and Taylor could bolster Minnesota’s reverse and screen games. I like Green Bay here, but the Packers have been allergic to the receiver position this offseason.”Honestly, I think our WR's are pretty much set as far as # of bodies we're bringing into TC to compete for depth spots. Thielen and Jefferson are nearly locked into WR1 and WR2 positions and the battle is on for the remaining 2-4 spots (depending on how many we end up keeping on the 55-man roster). You have Bibi, Sharpe, Osborn, Q Davis, Beebe, Hollins, Mitchell, D Davis, B Addison & D Chisena battling for spots on the initial roster and PS. As far Gabriel's speed playing a factor on reverses and screens, he only has 28 carries total in his career for less than 200 yds (only 6.8 YPC) and while screens count as receptions, on reverses and jet sweep-type plays, you're often looking for big gainers (10 yards+) and it doesn't seem Gabriel fits the bill. Gabriel also only has 2 total snaps on ST in the last 3 seasons so he's not contributing there, either. The Vikings selected Osborn in the 5th Rd this yr who offers more ST abilities and possibly more on screens/reverses/sweeps than Gabriel. No thanks.

Looks like the Jets will be landing Logan Ryan on a 1-yr deal - link. Definitely be interesting to see what the money is; he was due to make approx $10m in 2020 so we'll see what the market bore out for him. It's worth following if you believe the Vikes should sign one vet CB this offseason to help out the young secondary, so if Logan gets significantly more than what he was looking for, perhaps the Vikings can afford to reach out to Dennard or Kirkpatrick and get one of them on a cheap, 1-yr deal.

Looks like the Logan Ryan to the Jets stuff I was reading on Tuesday (and sharing here) was premature....I guess the only person who can communicate his free agency updates is Ryan himself:
NFL Update @mysportsupdate Free agent CB Logan Ryan said on @gmfb that any news about him signing with a team isn't true until he announces it: “People broke news and wrote articles on where I was going before I even knew.” 9:32 AM - May 14, 2020

Did Dre Kirkpatrick sign w/ the Vikings and I missed it? Following the tragic death of George Floyd, the backlash against the law has flared. The situation has escalated to a stage where there is rioting and vandalism. Now, Minnesota Vikings player Dre Kirkpatrick opened up on the situation in his residence in Cincinnati.( link). Also, Kirkpatrick's Wiki page says this ( link): Kirkpatrick was released by the Bengals on March 31, 2020, after eight seasons. Kirkpatrick would later be signed by the Minnesota Vikings on May 28, 2020. Can anyone else confirm Kirkpatrick is now a Viking? I must have missed that signing on 5/28 and I can't seem to find it when doing an internet search.

Exactly how I feel, get a guard no matter if Samia is ready or not. We need two at the moment, and Reiff to guard isn't a hand I will go all in on. Maybe Cleveland can be so good at LT that he even helps Reiff out, idk. I will tell you this, I like our line DOWN THE ROAD a lot more than I did before the draft. My big beef is Elf at LG, and that could kill us....

Chargers Rumors: Desmond King trade rumors to the Vikings heating up linkMinnesota Vikings defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson tweeted out something very simple on Thursday: the letters DK with some choice emojis.Well, it was probably about Desmond King. King liked the tweet and was teammates with Johnson in college at Iowa. But would Johnson even tweet out something this cryptic? It would not make sense if there was not already existing speculation with the Minnesota Vikings.
ESPN NFL insider Field Yates posted an article on Thursday outlining potential trades that would help both teams. One of the trades was between the Chargers and Vikings, and included the Chargers trading Desmond King for tackle Riley Reiff.
This trade makes sense on paper. The Vikings just drafted Ezra Cleveland in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and could slot him in to start at left tackle, thus flipping an area of strength for an area of need in the secondary.
