Although I agree w/ Alex here, I think Alex did a little too much talking last season and not enough blocking.

I think he was playing a lot better at the end of the year, it's always the draw back with FA's-they almost always seem to take a bit to adapt to a new team-IF they ever do. I think we will see him at his best this year, especially if there is some continuity around him. I hope Reiff and Remmers can adapt quickly.

What exactly is different from Nelson's comments to ours? O-line was awful. Period.

What exactly is different from Nelson's comments to ours? O-line was awful. Period. There were different reasons why our line was awful, one of the major reasons being all the injuries to starters along that line. While it's true that Rick and the coaches tried the "low round" approach to the OL (except in 2013 w/ Kalil) that Nelson mentioned, even those players saw devastating injuries they never recovered from (ie, Fusco, Sullivan, etc) that really cost the Vikings in 2016. Since Nelson specifically mentions the Raiders O-line, I wonder what would happen if you take away K Osemele and D Penn from their line for a season - I get the feeling that Carr and their running game would have taken a bit of a beating.

It isn't just FA's but a line as a whole needs time to gel. They need to play as a unit and they need to learn each others tendencies. It always takes time when there is a shake up on the line. This new line of ours will come out of the gate slow this September. It is going to be a rough start. I just hope they can pull it together before the season is lost.

In fairness, the Vikings had a first rounder and a second rounder on the line until last season including Loadholt. That makeup of O-line isn't all that dissimilar to the rest of the NFL. Kalil was Spielman's highest draft pick ever. The real problem is that we've swung and missed on a lot of linemen.

Hopefully they settle on a starting group early and get them as many reps as possible in preseason. The new practice rules make live reps invaluable for the OL.
