N95 for patients lab confirmed with Covid and a face shield. Regular mask and face shield for those symptomatic till proven positive. Just a face mask for milling about when not providing direct patient care. They do now. Did not at first. N95 is used for the day, and only for that patient. If you have 2 covid patients, you use a separate mask for each. Other masks are used for 1 day or if soiled(do not cough or sneeze in them, gross). No random testing for patients in my clinic. Symptom based. Glad to say management defers to us and does not give us a lot of crap if we feel a test is needed. Every week routinely since April Fools day. Also everytime I have had an exposure to a patient that ends up positive if the contact was in the last 10 days. So probably 20-30 times. Friggin sinuses are getting sore.
Talk to your Doctor about any studies your local hospital is participating in. If they are in the Interferon beta 1a study, nitric oxide study, convalescent plasma study, or monoclonal antibodies studies sign up for them if you are hospitalized. Also if you become gravely ill, ask to be put on systemic anticoagulation.
Other than that, wear a mask. I would recommend a vit D tab every other day and get outside in the sun. Take vitamin d every day in the winter and if you never go outside. I would also advise taking an aspirin a day or 2 gms of fish oil a day.
The mask thing is more to protect others than yourself, correct? As the virus is much to small to stop it with all the potential leak points. I sometimes have to wear a 3M half face respirator with cartridges for the area I'm in and I don't know if that would be sufficient. Add some beard stubble and the seal is not perfect. Good protocols by the VA, nice to hear!

The 3M is far far superior as it can protect you from things the N95 isn't even in its league. It's the next best thing to being on a supplied air system like firemen may use.

The mask thing is more to protect others than yourself, correct? It's for both. I worked with a Covid patient for 2 days before we found out they were Covid positive. This amounted to about 2 hours of contact of less than 2 feet. We both wore masks both times and I did not convert to positive. Neither mask was an N95, just a regular paper mask. The mask on the affected keeps the virus close them and your mask keeps the rest away from you. I cannot STRESS ENOUGH how effective and important masks are. You may or may not have severe symptoms and die. The shitty thing is NOBODY knows how they will react. Not even the Doctors can explain it. The most important thing you can do is minimize your exposure, and if you are exposed, minimize the "dose" you come in contact with. That is important.

Kramer, Got a question for you. I know you are health care professional at a VA hospital. Have you had any Covid-19 patients to tend to and how or what are you treating them with? Just curious. I plan on posting some links to some good articles for you tomorrow. Hope I can get it done for you. There are some good articles on marijuana studies too if you are interested.

I’ll say it again, masks don’t work. Your body needs oxygen not what you breath into your mask but each to there own. I wear a mask for over 12 hours a day at work. Every day since March. I wear them every time I go out in public. I'm better than ever. You get oxygen with a mask on. Some do certainly suffer from lack of oxygen to the brain, but it is not from masks. FYI oxygen is a single molecule, much smaller than a virus.

Work at the VA? Rhetorical question, but how do you do it day in and out? Visits take a lot out of me, just wipe me out for days!!!! You, sir, are worthy of respect. I would rather do almost anything than deal with wounded and sick people on a daily basis.

NYC Councilman Paul Vallone credits Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 recovery By Jon Levine August 8, 2020 | 8:52am | A Democratic New York City Councilman says hydroxychloroquine saved his life after a near-fatal run-in with COVID-19 in March. Paul Vallone, who represents northeast Queens, took the drug along with a standard flu Z-pack, and came back from the brink almost immediately. “I couldn’t breathe, very weak, couldn’t get out of bed. My doctor prescribed it. My pharmacy had it. Took it that day and within two to three days I was able to breathe,” Vallone told The Post. “Within a week I was back on my feet.” Though Vallone went public with his coronavirus diagnosis in an April 1 Twitter post, saying he was experiencing “mild symptoms,” his actual condition was considerably more severe. Vallone’s initial prognosis was particularly grim, as he also suffers from sarcoidosis, an auto-immune disease that attacks his lungs. “We were in panic mode when I went down because I didn’t have a lot of immune response,” he said. “I needed something to stay alive.” Hydroxychloroquine “worked for me.” Vallone’s brother Peter, a former City Councilman and a current civil court judge in Queens, also became a convert after his brother’s illness. “I guess all those doctors who are prescribing it are right. This drug is already on the market and the patent is up so it’s cheap. A new drug won’t be. So big money does not want this drug to be used. Always follow the money,” Peter Vallone said in a May 12 Facebook post, sharing a link to an NYU study touting the drug. nypost.com/2020/08/08/nyc-councilman-credits-hydroxychloroquine-for-covid-19-recovery/

To be honest I've never been a smoker of the wacky weed. But with my arthritis flare ups I have looked into CBD products that I've heard had some promise. Buy I dare not try any as long as I work where I do. I'm on both the company 10 panel random list and the Federal DOT list.

One case. It may have been the HCQ Zpack that did it. Could just as easily have been his own immune system that did it. Anecdotal stories are not evidence. That is why they do studies.
Based on the studies I have seen his treatment most likely did little to nothing and he would have had the same disease course without it.

So you say your mask worked for you and Hydroxychloroquine don’t work for others. When was there a mask study done? With the people you got in contact with how do you know your own immune system didn’t protect yourself??

With the people you got in contact with how do you know your own immune system didn’t protect yourself?? When was there a mask study done? In thousands of hospitals all across the world. And there were no nationwide articles about my mask success story. Just one biased story about an unproven case of HCQ and Zpack. My story is corroborated by many others. His is not and is refuted by many other stories and studies. Don't wear a mask if you don't want to. I don't give a shit. But many others here might want some information that is not total TWEET bullshit. I destroyed that stupid coronavirus HCQ tweet from earlier and I will ruin all your bullshit too.
