If they start giving out federal $$ to run I'll declare every 2 years. That is another program ripe for abuse and corruption. We can't even trust them to secure the border or enforce the law, they would rather have it for campaign ads. Really solid point nodak.... We can't even get anything meaningful done in Congress without one party having the super-majority, and now we're to the point that if one party passes something or the President passes an executive action, it will just be challenged in court.... ...and we want this same Congress/government to control our health care? I know the private insurance companies are greedy corporations, but we're going to pay through the nose for health care no matter what - either we pay the private insurers and higher and higher premiums or pay through the nose in taxes like many other countries...and if I'm going to pay through the nose, at least I'll pay the corporations seeing as how they can actually provide something for the money whereas the taxes we pay for the US Congress pays for pure dysfunction.. To me the logical solution is to make 'insurance' insurance again and force price transparency for providers. Insurance isn't really insurance anymore it's expected to pay for every visit when in reality insurance is suppose to cover the big stuff that is difficult to budget for. Car insurance doesn't pay for tires, oil, maintenance or it would be extremely expensive, just as home owners doesn't pay for regular maintenance and routine repairs and minor damages are usually covered by the deductible. I could see some version of a universal HSA (health savings account) to allow people to have funds to cover the non covered expenses. Even some type of an earned income credit for low income people that would go to an HSA with certain limits. The only portions of the health care industry with little to no cost containment problems is the elective health fields like plastic surgery, weight loss, laser eye surgery etc. You can read billboards with prices and get actual hard quotes for procedures. If a person could get lab work done with a menu with prices or find out the REAL cost of an X-ray things would get better real quick. My youngest daughter is on a medication that "costs" $12-$14,000 per 28 days there is NO FUCKING WAY that is a real cost. It's not even a new drug just new in treating her condition, it's been around for many years for other uses. Pharma spends way to much money 'pushing ' their drugs with sexy reps, high dollar perks, and enormous ad campaigns. Take note of how many ads you see for drugs and Dr's have to prescribe them, why advertise to the patient who doesn't even know if the drug is the correct thing for them?

The best way as always to fix this mess is to create a competitive market which listing prices would help do.
They can't fix the problem though. One side needs control of healthcare to further their control of you, and the other side needs it broken so they can tell people they need to be elected because they are the only ones who can stop our healthcare being taken over by the other side.
The only reason this problem persists is because Washington wants it to.

The only reason this problem persists is because Washington wants it to. Washington wants what the donors want, audit the pharmaceutical companies. I say that not to threaten them or restrict their business, the worst thing they could do is stifle innovation but they have become bloated fat cats that have far too much political influence. I'm pretty confident they spend inordinate amounts of money on promoting their drugs rather than research. They can charge crazy prices because the market influences have been removed with extended and corrupted patent process/rules and the consumers are removed from the equation.

When I/we originally said they would use platforms for bad I/we were told to take off our tinfoil hats. Its clear now that big social media is colluding for elections. Free press is over, gone.

I'm already tired of this election. I tried to watch a couple of "episodes" of these debates, but my brain started to hurt. My main takeaway is that they all have "plans" to give everybody in America everything they need/want for free (housing, health care, jobs or job-like "paychecks", drugs, education, etc.). We're also going to let anybody else in the world who wants everything for free just walk across the borders and get a parking ticket if they get "caught." We'll pay for it by refusing to let corporations earn money for their stockholders and by making the rich "pay their fair share."

We'll pay for it by refusing to let corporations earn money for their stockholders and by making the rich "pay their fair share." It's the pendulum effect. It is a symptom of a bipolar nation. The harder the ends push the pendulum the farther it swings. Make no mistake whether this election or the next we will have a president so liberal she will make Obama look moderate. The only treatment for the pendulum effect is for the nation to stop listening to the ends and stand in the middle or closer at least. That weight will stop it. This is not a new disorder just the swings have taken on violent consequences more recently. One that both ends are responsible for but only chose to blame the other. That's what I'm tired of. The inevitable result of an unchecked disorder. You're tired of this election already. I'm tire of the cause and effect it's having on our country. I'm tired of this thread already. Oh well, I better get used to it. It going to be up for the next 16 months or so. I guess at some point I would have weighed in. Now I did. You all enjoy it. I'm merely a spectator now days. Or so it feels. See some of us "libs" as I've been called do have a conscience.

I think ultimately, Socialism is where we end up. Unfortunately...

I guess being closer to retirement and cashing in on that free stuff, that I've been paying for since the 70's makes me less afraid of socialism thinking. As long as they don't start taking the free stuff I paid for and give it to somebody else. Well I guess I really won't care. That and having to tell that kid to give me my damn discount. I'm gonna be pissed if I got to remind him every dang time...lol.
