All the above He was acting like it was some sort of gotcha moment but he never even made a point much less allow Gorsuch to respond to said point. You would think a congressman would understand that the "trucker thing" was a result of the laws congress passed, not the judge who upheld their law as written. If this "frozen trucker" thing bothered Franken so much why isn't he doing his job and leading the charge to have the laws that result I this decision amended or repealed?

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced he would lead a filibuster against Gorsuch's confirmation, calling the nominee a judge who "almost instinctively favors the powerful over the weak."
Looks like the Dems aren't going to go quietly into the night on this one. I'm not sure they realize that if they push the Republicans to go nuclear....the likelihood is a dramatic and ideological shift to the right on the court as Trump can appoint anybody he wants without fear of the Dems blocking. He'll likely seek the most ideological judges he can find.

The divide between both parties is so wide right now...I honestly can't see anything getting done that requires one party to vote the other way on anything - laws, Supreme Court confirmations, independent investigations by the Intel Committee, etc.
Here you have a Congress person in Schumer, who four years ago himself voted to trigger the nuclear option on all other nominees, and is now telling everyone not to follow his lead. "The answer isn’t to change the rules, it’s to change the nominee..."
It seems that Gorsuch's ability to do exactly what the Judicial Branch is designed to do - rule on the letter of the law passed by the Legislative Branch - is exactly the thing that Schumer cites he doesn't want. "We do not want judges with ice water in their veins". I cannot understand this line of thinking; how can any member of our US Government want a high-ranking member of the Judicial Branch to not do their job and vote based on the Law and not based on his/her personal feelings and/or political agenda? The Judicial Branch was not designed to be political at all - they were designed to judge solely on the laws of the land, as passed by the people of the United States through their elected officials in the US Congress.
What Senator Schumer seems to be suggesting is that he - and by extension the Democratic Party - want something that goes against one of the primary, founding principles of our governmental structure of the separation of powers by the three branches. And quite honestly, with the results of this last Presidential election in which many voters casted their vote solely in the direction of the Supreme Court, he very well may be going against the people of the United States.

I like the New York Times slant on Gorsuch lambasting that "unlike other Republican nominees, Gorsuch refused to provide indication on how he would vote" Unlike other Republican nominees? In other words, it's ok if the Democratic nominees that came in between (Kagan, Sotamayor) refused to indicate how they would vote on various cases...but those evil candidates on the Right are supposed to answer the questions to provide fodder for the opposition.
Supreme Court nominees used to be approved nearly unanimously unless they were well outside the mainstream....but I guess that was a different time.

I keep saying... we should just break up into 2 nations: the RED and the BLUE. It's where we're headed anyway. No matter who's in "power", about 50% of the people are going to hate it and feel oppressed. Why put oursevles through all this? We can certainly choose to be trading partners with the "other" nation... but if BLUEs believe that their way is best, let 'em prove it. Likewise with REDs. At some point, there's a good chance that one of these new countries will fail... and, at that point, there could be talk of reunion (under the laws of the surviving state). In my opinion, sometimes people just have to fail- and fail hard- in order to learn that their worldview is wrong.

Hey Chuckie, next up Ted Cruz..... If the nuclear option is used...I would guess that Cruz would get strong consideration...you know how he's going to decide...right along party lines. I think Cruz still has Presidential aspirations though...
