but I think they're a far cry from Whitworth and Wagner who weren't that much more. The lions structured Wagner so he will get 17.5 million the first year, thats a big chunk of the cap that would be tough to do Whitworth costs 9.1 million the first year. Reiff is 8.5 and Remmers is 5.1 so combined they are less than Wagner. While we don't know how the negotiations went, it may have been possible to restructure differently than what Detroit did. Seeing what Beachum got from NYJ (3 for $24m, w/ $12m guaranteed), I would have liked Beachum vs. Remmers; Reiff could slide over to RT and Beachum could play LT. If Beachum stunk on the left, it may have been possible to put him inside and slide Reiff back over to LT. I'm still hoping the Eagles drop players soon and one of them being J Kelce who I would pounce on. He solidifies the middle of the OL and allows Berger to finish his career at G. That sets up the Draft for a developmental OT and G who replaces Remmers or Reiff after 2 seasons and Berger after 2017. The next UFA Rick should be working on is a hedge against Alexander struggling in the slot this season. In my opinion, you have to get Bills slot CB Nickell Robey-Coleman. While he's slightly undersized at 5'9", he's young (25) and a solid slot guy - per PFF, he allowed a passer rating of 74.86 in the slot in 2016 which was good for 2nd best for slot CBs just behind Chris Harris Jr. He should be much cheaper than what Captain got from Carolina.

it may have been possible to restructure differently than what Detroit did. It may have been possible but there is no way the lions wanted that type of contract, they were obviously doing it to entice him to sign it. I don't know a lot about these Olineman so I kind of rely on PFF, while not perfect they have more knowledge on these guys than I do and Beachum not so good Kelvin Beachum 44.3 T 28 Jaguars 1024 Jets Mike Remmers 66.1 T 28 Panthers 1106 VIkings The next UFA Rick should be working on is a hedge against Alexander struggling in the slot this season. I agree

He was recovering in 2016 and although his entire 2016 PFF grade stunk, his 2nd half was strong and there are some out there that believe he has a strong chance to regain that form he had in 2014. And I agree w/ PFF's write-up on the Jet's signing of him: " Last season with Jacksonville, his first since the injury, was a disaster, but given the money flying around for offensive tackles so far and his potential proven upside, this deal is very reasonable and could pay off..." However, the "upside" w/ Remmers and Reiff is that they're reliable...and even if they're just leave avg, the fact that they're actually on the field most of the time is a big plus given that our OL starters can't do the same.
