This new Star Wars movie has an abundance of something that hasn't been in a Star Wars movie since 1983's Return of the Jedi.......Luke Skywalker himself. Luke Skywalker: 1983 Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker: 2017 The Last JediHe was my favorite, him and Hans Solo, so I suppose maybe it'd be worth watching if the plot is decent. I haven't seen the last one yet though, so probably wouldn't know what is going on in this one lol. I wasn't too impressed with the last one of the new ones that I did see though.

The one that came out last year has nothing to do with this story. It fills in the gap between episodes 3 and 4 where the Rebels steal the plans for the Death Star.

If you haven't seen Episode VII: The Force Awakens that came out in Dec 2015, I would probably at least watch that one before you see Episode VIII: The Last Jedi which is in theaters starting tonight. The Force Awakens takes you back to the original Star Wars trilogy so if you like those early Star Wars films - especially Han Solo - you'll probably like The Force Awakens. ...and speaking of Han Solo, the next "Anthology" Star Wars film (meaning the Star Wars films outside of the main, tent-pole Episode films) is a Han Solo film about his early days as a "smuggler" that will probably include Chewbacca, Jabba the Hut and Lando. I think that film could be pretty good as they could dive into why Han dismisses the Force (calling it a "hokey religion" in the first Star Wars movie), his past relationship with Lando and what exactly did he do that caused Jabba to put a large price on his head. I could imagine the final scene in that movie could be Han escaping Jabba's henchman (including Greedo) and trying to hide in the Cantina on Mos Eisley, flat broke and desperate for money, and then being approached by Obi-Wan....

I just read the plot outline for The Force Awakens, and now I remember why I didn't care to watch the next one. They killed off one of my favorites, and I really didn't like the Ren character at all. Total tool. But now that it refreshes my memory, at least Luke Skywalker is going to be relevant again. I have to admit I'm curious.

But at the same time, I binge watched all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies the day before and the same day I saw the last one in the movie theater, and I thought it was one of the better ones (just because I had binge watched them all so the plot questions made more sense to me than most I'm assuming). So those reviews aren't always right.
But seriously, I looked at the star ratings from the first 50 or so reviews, and only 2 were a 6, and only a few were even a 5. Most were a 1 to 3.

IMDB tends to have lower ratings for everything. Also, early on, there are a TON of fake reviews out there on sites like that. Especially before it is released. I don't know why, but people love pretending they've seen an unreleased movie. Everything I've heard about the film directly from people I know has been very positive. It's not a huge sample size, but it's people I know at least.

It's not a huge sample size, but it's people I know at least. Fair enough. I've reviewed a few movies on there. Not a lot, but if it's really bad, I'll review it. Same if it's really good. I won't bother with a mediocre movie. I usually figure anything below a 6 isn't worth watching 99% of the time. 6.5 will be average. 7.5 is bound to be pretty damn good. 8+ is rare and almost guaranteed to be really good. I'm also talking after you've had a LOT of reviews on it. This one has 8.2 stars and 23k reviews. High rating. But the reviews themselves are horrible. So I'm guessing most of those reviews now are fanbois that don't know their heads from their asses on the movie and just voted a 10 because they like ANYTHING and EVERYTHING Star Wars. That's why I read reviews instead of just looking at the overall rating. (Well I didn't read much of the reviews because I didn't want to read a spoiler....more of a headline and star # thing). I'll still probably go to it just because I want to see Luke's storyline. But, the one review I read made it sound like they ruined his character.

I saw the first one as a kid. Didn't see the others.
My son loves Star Wars. So - he made me take him at 11 pm tonight.
He loved it.
I thought it was a good movie ... I just didn't know the characters.
Spoiler alert: Rey is hot.

In fact, I generally only read negative reviews, especially if products. I want to know why people don’t like something to see if those reasons matter to me. In this case, I think the reason a lot of people hate it is because of what this movie just did to canon. It was a little jarring for someone like me who has read every post-ROTJ book and comic. But, I do think it was the right move.

Today is with some friends.
