I still don’t fully grasp what happened. Lol...this is why I have a financial advisor my dad trusts, and a dad who knows this stuff well. I know a lot more than I used to and wish I knew more.

anonymous patriot @anonpatriotq
1h · The establishment is exposing itself like never before in history - big media, big tech, and big government openly colluding to silence retail traders in order to prop up billion dollar hedge funds and the entire Wall Street elite class. They are not happy that the People are finding their voice. And there is nothing they can do to stop it.

I still don’t fully grasp what happened. Lol...this is why I have a financial advisor my dad trusts, and a dad who knows this stuff well. I know a lot more than I used to and wish I knew more. This may not be perfectly accurate but I will try to explain... When you purchase stocks it's a lot of paperwork to transfer the title to you so the brokers just keep the title in their names and keep a record they are holding it for you. When a fund thinks the stock will go down they call the broker and sell the stock and the broker loans them your stock which is in the broker's name so they can short sell it before they actually own it. After some time period the fund must actually purchase the stock to return back to the broker and replace the stock they short sold. All that previous short selling usually makes the stock price go down. A lot of us common people see this as market manipulation but if you're a rich hedge fund they seem to think it's legal. In this case about 2 million reddit users said "hey we like gamestop and hate hedge funds let's all buy gamestop." So instead of going down the stock went up. The funds are required by law to purchase the stock and the nervous funds started early buying too to get out of short positions. Boom... stock skyrocketed from all the buying. Now some funds that short sold like $20 million expecting to buy back the stock at $10 million need to buy it back at $10 billion... with a B. Billion. Instead of making $10 million they managed to lose $10 billion and are not very happy and will probably go bankrupt. And of course the SEC is looking into this because it's fine when rich people do it but not for reddit users which is just pissing them off more and buying even more.

Below is a post from Reddit. Some of these people are going to probably lose a lot of money and I'm not sure they really understand that. The stock must eventually come back down unless the company can perform some miracle.
----------
I yolo'd $54k yesterday, and set a buy order for another $12k (Look at my history). I am not a money man, I lost my job in February last year and used my severance and took a risk.
Thanks to my military service and entering the market in the middle of the COVID shit I am fortunate enough to be in my last semester for a Chemistry degree.
I don't want to live the life of Wallstreet. I just want to live my life. My kids will learn the value of hard work and honesty; hopefully, with less pitfalls than I have experienced.
Prior to this I invested for personal gain. This YOLO money I am truly willing to lose in pursuit of changing the system. I will hold beyond the peak, not because I am stupid, but because I know we have a better chance of breaking the system if we force the shorts to cover everything. Every last fucking cent.
I fucking mean it. I LOVE THIS STONK. $PEOPLE all in.

What’s happening with Reddit? My wife is almost never on it but got a notification about something in regards to hate speech?
