SOURCE: Tom Pelissero - Twitter Vikings NT Michael Pierce has opted out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Pierce informed the Vikings he is opting out because of his asthma. That should entitle him to the $350,000 "high-risk stipend." Pierce was the only notable addition in free agency for a team that let Everson Griffen walk. Griffen does remain on the open market. Going on 28, Pierce's $3 million guaranteed will now toll to 2021. An unforeseen dynamic could be players opting out to hedge against losing their guaranteed money if COVID-19 eventually forces the cancellation of the season. Chris Tomasson @christomasson #Vikings nose tackle Michael Pierce to opt out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. He tells the Pioneer Press it's due to respiratory issues. Here's the first story. It will be updated. www.twincities.com/2020/07/28/vikings-nt-michael-pierce-to-opt-out-of-2020-season-due-to-respiratory-issues/ … Ben Goessling ✔ @goesslingstrib Replying to @goesslingstrib Just talked with Michael Pierce, who flew to Minnesota to meet with Vikings officials and tell them his decision. Asthma has been an issue in his family, and he's taken COVID seriously -- said he hasn't been in a restaurant since February. "It's not an easy situation, he said." Chris Tomasson @christomasson #Vikings NT Michael Pierce said team officials had known for awhile that he possibly might not play. Says they knew his medical records. “We had to wait until the NFL had make a decision on how things are going to be done.’’

Haha. Well, just get ready, because I'm sure there will be more.
The Pats are looking to get in line for Trevor Lawrence and with the 5 players they have opting out, their push could be strong...

Don't care. The NFL is dead to me. Just like MLB after the 1994 season I think it was. The strike season. F-em.

Don't care. The NFL is dead to me. Just like MLB after the 1994 season I think it was. The strike season. F-em. I do care, because I want to watch football. I NEED football this fall with this crazy crap that has been going on this year. A lot of junk in here, sorry in advance, but I guess this post gets my thoughts, whether applicable to the original post or not. It frustrates me to see guys like Pierce succumb to the fear of living and he was supposed to be a vital piece to the Vikings front 4 this season as a result of many losses due to FA. That said, I trust he knows more about his body than I do about his body, and he needs to take the necessary precautions. What I don't understand is why he doesn't just sit out a game or two, rather than saying he's done for the entire season. What happens if the virus lingers, just like the flu or the common cold? Will he quit? If the NFL continues to follow suit with their BLM song and kneeling at the National Anthem, I will turn it off and back on when the games begin if they air it. I'm becoming numb to all the crap sadly. My youngest absolutely loves basketball and wants to watch something every day. Well, between the BLM embroidering on the floors to the constant commercials about it to the players talking about it, we cannot get away from it. I'm one who doesn't turn on the tv to support the protest against crap like that or even against Alabama when they go to the NCCG, because I do not support them. But I cannot turn off the NFL and my Vikings. It will be painful to see members of the team kneeling and disrespecting the flag and not realizing the movement they are protesting if this happens. I enjoyed seeing the NHL standing in arms last night. The thing that pisses me off even more is that Playstation Vue folded and now Google is taking over again with their hands on YouTubeTV, they don't care what people want. They don't offer NFL Network or RedZone. My family and I would stream the Vikings' games and have RedZone on one of the TVs so it was a blast on Sundays. Too much crap going...but the NFL is fall. I live in KS, so this means the leaves change, the weather breaks from the hell we call summer heat and suffocation and finally allows me to breath again, to holidays, to football, hockey, and basketball. It's my favorite time of year, but if football cancels, I truly hope that it falls on it's face once and for all, because they no longer deserve the fan base. Frankly speaking, it would be incredibly ironic when the BLM supports fail to make the money they think isn't enough and realize that they were "privileged", idolized, held on a pedestal, and supported before all of this crap went down. They can then thank their brother in arms, Mr. Kaeperdick for starting a movement that was based on misinformation spewed by our pathetic media heads. You would have thought "The Sandman" suit would have slowed that movement and/or altered course, but the media just pushes on...unreal. I've said it for years, but technology adaption and creation has been a beacon of light, but has and will become our worst enemy.

I respect your right to watch it. But me and millions are going to sacrifice this season in hopes of eliminating it next year and all the years after. The only way to make change is to not watch and therefore not give TV ad revenue.
If I own a company and want to pay $1,000,000 to run an ad and am promised 1,000,000 viewers will see my ad - and then I find out my ad only reached 500,000 - I want a reduction in the cost of that ad. When all advertisers ask for this reduction it means TV gets way less money. TVs problem is they gave NFL x dollars based on assumed viewers.
When TV is now spewing money (giving NFL $100 and only getting $50 from advertisers) they have to go to NFL and say their cost model is broken and need go reduce how much they pay. NFL says wait you signed a contract. TV says yes, but we can’t sustain or we go bankrupt.
TV says: You have 2 choices. 1. Stop all the SJW stuff so viewers will come back. 2. We will have to opt out of our contract and pay the opt out fee. This will leave NFL no choice but to fix problem, getting rid of SJW crap.
Its the only way to fix it. This also bleeds over to fantasy football too. All the ads they run online if you use NFL or ESPIN or Yahoo site for FFL. You click on site several times and daily upkeep and updates. If I stop playing they have less FFL teams set up and it means less clicks and less money for site owners like NFL and ESPIN.
I love sports. Its gonna be hard. But I’m doing it. Thunder played pre season games already and I have no idea how they did. If I see a tweet then I would know but I have not pursued it. I might check out tweets but no more. No going to website or TV.
If we keep watching they will keep force feeding pol to me.

I can respect that Iceratz. For me however, when I think of the NFL/NBA, I just feel numb. I feel no excitement, not deep desire to watch. The desire I do have is to have the desire to watch if that makes sense. It's hard for me to root for players that are so vocal about their alignment with an org and system of beliefs that are 100% wrong. I know we're supposed to root for the jersey, but even that has become a vocal supporter of this anti-American garbage.
Maybe things will change and I can put this all aside come the 1st game, but IDK. Between the nonsensical rules over the last few years and the infusion of BLM, I just don't care. I feel like I would need to force myself to watch more than I would need to force myself not to.

This is the first time I've heard that asthma is an underlying concern with respect to COVID for a young healthy individual. Probably just as well, since we'll have him for one more "real" year. This season is shaping up to be what amounts to a sixteen game preseason. Maybe that means our 23 rookies and rookie FA's who make the roster will see more action (not a real number, just sayin....).
