I wrote about this in another thread today - the Anthem was played before the Dallas/Nashville MLS game last night, but it wasn't played in the recent "MLS is Back" tournament that just concluded. So fans didn't have a chance to either support or boo the players' kneeling during that recent tournament and last night's MLS game between those two teams was the 1st MLS game where fans were in attendance. From the article: There was a smattering of boos when players from FC Dallas and Nashville SC collectively took a knee during the national anthem before their Major League Soccer game on Wednesday in Frisco, Texas.
The anthem was not played before games at the tournament.
The teams met as MLS restarts the regular season in local markets. Some games will include fans if local jurisdictions allow it. Just over 5,000 were allowed to attend the match at Toyota Stadium, although the crowd that showed up appeared smaller.

I looked before posting this as to where it would best fit and figured this thread was most appropriate.

I put it in the " This might do it" thread....it's not a big deal that you posted it here - I just wanted to clear-up that the National Anthem was played at last night's MLS game and perhaps you thought it wasn't...if the fans had booed when the Anthem wasn't playing and the players kneeled, then that's a different story because the players/officials weren't being disrespectful to the Anthem or those who support it... ...but they did, and that could be a significant reason why the fans did boo...and my post was more to do w/ the player's comments as he seemed to chastise the fans who booed for not "understanding" why the players kneel...

I didn't take offense to the double post; I just don't like posting the same thing in multiple threads. Oh well. I misread the article on the Anthem's playing as they spoke about two different events. And yes, I was merely turned off by the player's comments about "chastis"ing the fans for the boos because the fans are not understanding. I also thought it was interesting that he continued with the following: "They can't see the reason. They think we're the ignorant ones. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm sorry to have this tone, but you have to call it for what it is."He earlier claimed it was "absolute hell" over the last six months for him and how short-sighted that is that it was only that way for him and his team. "As a team we try to give the best possible product on the field, and these last six months have been absolute hell for us. Absolute hell."Really? Who's "us"? The team, a specific gender, a specific race, the cities being rioted, the black-on-black crime, the innocent deaths, especially children, the people out of work, the country in disarray?...who is us, the athletes getting paid handsomely to play a game?

Agreed. And while players certainly have the right to feel the way they feel, fans do to, especially when they pay their hard-earned money to go watch the players play a sport. Prior to the pandemic, if fans booed players during pre-game ceremonies, during the game itself or even after the game, then it's pretty much business as usual. If you can't deal with paid fans booing you during a professional sporting event, then you may want to find a new profession. ...and then add some fans booing players kneeling during the playing of the Anthem - something that many fans think deserves at least people standing at attention to acknowledge the flag/country - and you get more booing. The player thinks the fans don't understand the reasons they are kneeling which I believe to be completely ignorant; fans know, they just wish players understood why it's disrespectful to them, too, and to "kneel/protest/draw attention to" the player's cause at other times and not during the playing of the Anthem.

I wish more people saw this truth. Really awesome take there and I really 2nd that notion Smoked - you really wish that takes like that could be somehow broadcast all over mainstream media outlets so many people outside of those who watch that video can view. There's certainly people out there that have conservative viewpoints/beliefs who don't go along with people around them who might outright condemn those beliefs....and if they see others stand up for their own without fear of retribution, then it might give those that don't a sense that they can, too... I think it would be wise for President Trump to put that take on his Twitter feed so it gets out there a bit more...

Here's an article from a local Portland, OR TV station on the protests there last night that involved the incident in purplemachine's video above - link: After a peaceful rally and speeches, the group marched around the Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct and vandalized and threw objects at the building. Police said they did not interact with the crowd other than getting employees safely in and out of the building.Peaceful protests? Not interacting with the crowd when they starting vandalizing and throwing objects at a building? When you take a pacifist stance on criminal activity, no wonder individuals who want to cause physical harm to others feel emboldened to do anything they want - there is no consequences for their actions... And Speaker of the House Pelosi wants to bring back the House to vote on the USPS system? The USPS is more important than American citizens being physically harms via "peaceful" protesting and emotionally harmed via the lockdowns?
