Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, it seems the Vikings want to go over the magical $10m per season mark w/ Cook and want to "bridge the gap" between that and the $16m per season McCaffrey is getting.... link“I’m told the Vikings want to get something done here, despite Cook’s very public requests for a holdout,” Fowler said. “They believe that they have time, a month left. They consider him a leader in the locker room, on the field. Cook is slightly disrespected by the initial offer, but they’re hoping they can bridge the gap with something under Christian McCaffrey’s $16 million per year.”Just shruggin' my shoulders...don't like it, but it seems inevitable that the Vikings will "overpay" for Cook ("overpay" for Cook is my opinion) at some point...

Why oh why?
Especially with the soon to follow massive decline in viewers due to unpatriotic kneelers, owners are going to have big bills to pay with much less future revenue.

Reminds me of the AP days - a heck of a player (HOF caliber) - but like Barry Sanders, centering your entire offensive philosophy around a RB is not the key to NFL success in the 21st century...
Yeah, the Titans lined up and handed the ball to Derrick Henry in 2019 and it got them to the AFC Championship, but their OL is much better than ours and Tannehill basically had a Case Keenum "horseshoe"-like season and will more than likely regress back to the mean much like Keenum has. Their 2019 was the exception to the general rule....
If you don't have a Top 5 QB like the Chiefs do, then you need to maintain a balanced approach on offense like the 49ers did last year with a great blend of passing/running and the offense not centered around just 1 person, and more centered around keeping teams off-balance with their play-calling, motions and giving what the defense gives them.
It just seems like we'll have to ride out some of the current big-money contracts and then hope to "hit" on our draft picks in the future for the next window to open....

Per Spotrac, the Vikings have the 8th most expensive QB1-WR1-RB1 combo in the NFL - and that's before any Cook extension; if Cook gets $10m+ per season and depending on guaranteed money, the Vikes could certainly be 2nd on that list.... link

And this is without a Dalvin Cook extension, either...if that salary cap # holds, 2020 might be the last season in purple for Cook - you just can't afford to pay a RB $13m+ a season and take those cap hits.... We know Reiff's contract is gone in 2021 with the plan for Ezra to probably take over at LT in 2021+, but if that's the cap #, it'll take a bit more than cutting Reiff....

After the coming ratings shit storm of 2020, that cap is going way down. No team will be safe from cuts. Then the NFL/players will realize this kneeling shit went too far (again). I hope it craters, fuck em. If players were smart they would be lobbying Goodell to stop the bullshit. Since they are not it means they are part of the problem. So it means the cap is crap and why not spend like you won the lottery. Everyone is gonna have to cut major costs next year anyway, go out with a bang.

apple.news/AQ5Z9mWHgQaSUUaz4EXG3kwMike Zimmer: Dalvin Cook told me he won't hold out Despite reports during the offseason that Vikings running back Dalvin Cook would hold out without a new contract, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer says Cook will be there when the Vikings report to training camp next week. Zimmer told Stacey Dales of NFL Network, “I was told he would be” at the start of camp. Asked by whom he was told that, Zimmer answered, “By him.” Realistically, a holdout was unlikely for Cook because the new Collective Bargaining Agreement allows teams to fine holdouts $50,000 a day, and causes holdouts to lose a year of service toward free agency. Cook could have threatened to opt out of the season without a new contract, but that too would push back his free agency for a year. So Cook is prepared to show up to work as he heads into the fourth and final year of his rookie contract.

Seems odd that so many university educated people cant see the problem with disrespect being their mode of "protest"?!? Now if they were grapplers, they would know better, but dumb ass football play...er...er..sorry guys!!

You have to wonder if this will help with the Dalvin Cook extension.... Here are the largest pro-rated bonuses against the Vikings 2020 cap: - $11.5m Cousins - $5m D Hunter - $2.8m Thielen - $2.6m Barr - $2.5m Kendricks That's nearly $25m in pro-rated bonuses that just go away against the 2020 cap. If the Vikings give Cook an extension and just lump all of the pro-rated bonuses into the 2020 cap then they can possibly get it done. What this also does is allow the Vikings to release Cook in the future if his performance declines significantly because they won't have any dead cap to eat w/ all the pro-rated bonuses already taken care of.

Uncle, "will be removed from the 2020 cap immediately upon notification a player is opting out" Wouldn't that have to occur before any bonus is removed?
