I would say that $13 million is the high end of his market value. There are a number of considerations that come into play, including length of contract and team intangibles. For a 3-year deal, structured appropriately with incentives that is likely to net him $13 million per season if he stays healthy and performs? I've got no problem with that. A 4 or 5 year deal with a lot of sunk cash that leaves the team high and dry if he is injured or his production falls way off? No way I'd sign that deal at $13 mil/per. Cook is a playmaker and has been great in the community -- you pay market value for guys like that or trade them for an even better return.

I get why he is asking. He is definitely a great player when healthy. But In the diminished need for a stud RB in today's NFL along with the history of RB second contract not working out...I would trade him away.

Nay, he’s a good to great RB but that position is too risky. The model should be pay your QB and lines the big salaries, they are most likely to play the majority of the season. Skill positions are just too risky in my opinion. Good QB and good lines elevate average skill players.

And next year when O'Neill is in the same situation as Cook is right now (2nd Rd draft pick coming into his last year of rookie deal and grossly underpaid), I don't think many fans wold be against paying O'Neill that contract extension seeing as how he's arguably the best OL we have and will hopefully be a cornerstone RT for the Vikings in the foreseeable future. Invest in O'Neill going forward so any RB and QB that plays behind him will be successful....

At least he's not sitting because he's hurt for a change.

Saw this on the Twitter feed on the left: The Athletic's Viking's writer, Arif Hasan, thinks Cook won't be holding out a long time - if at all ( link). "Hasan went on the CBS Sports’ “Pick Six NFL Podcast” to discuss the Cook situation. Asked about the likelihood on a scale from one to 10 that Cook will actually hold out, Hasan gave it a three. “I don’t think it’s very likely,” Hasan said. “The Vikings haven’t had to deal with very many holdouts in their history, and Dalvin doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would.”Hasan is one of the few Viking writers/reporters who's analysis/opinion that I like and just thought I'd throw that out there. While Cook and his agent put something out there on Monday, I think they know they're not in a strong-leverage position and the Vikings (under Wilf anyway) haven't been an organization that has screwed over their players that often (Brian Robison being an exception if you believe that him taking a pay cut and then releasing him is considered "screwing him over"; I know some do).

Too many injuries for my taste. People seem to forget that yes, he made it through 16 games last year, but I'd bet the farm he wouldn't have if this contract wasn't looming. Has everyone forgotten that bad shoulder he played through? No way in hell would he have played through it if he didn't have the contract year coming. That makes it 3 for 3 on injured years. No thanks.

If its one thing I have learned in the AD years and the Niner game last year, running backs do not deserve big money. Get NFL average players and build the line. Have the qb. DC is a great back. Its all downhill from here imo.
