Really disturbing video and story...
This is from the article:
The MPD said in a statement that an altercation occurred in South Minneapolis on Monday evening. It said officers responded to a report of forgery in progress. The police department said a suspect was sitting on top of his car and appeared to be under the influence when police ordered him to step away from the vehicle. According to the statement, he "physically resisted officers."
"Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. Officers called for an ambulance," the department said. "He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance where he died a short time later."
While I can understand putting the knee to someone's back to hold them down while you handcuff them and get them under control, I don't see the need to continue to pin the knee to the back of his neck....it seemed from the vantage point of the video that the suspect was completely subdued, and if he continued to resist arrest even while in handcuffs, then you put him in the back of the squad car when you handcuff him to the seats so the worst he can do is kick the back of the front seats.
The Minneapolis Police Dept are going to have to explain why they continued to subdue the suspect even when he was handcuffed...and the officers involved could be facing serious criminal charges. The officer who just stood there and did absolutely nothing was just as pathetic as the officer who continued to pin his knee to the back of the suspect's neck...the article mentioned 4 total officers were fired, but I didn't see the other two - maybe they were just standing around, too....

Regardless what happened prior this was murder. Yes, we need to see prior to video starting which may be someone on drugs with super power. But that does not explain the officer continuing to hold his knee on neck (not back, neck).
I hope Chicago deaths get as much attention as this will but I am going to doubt it. The person who held him down with knee on neck should never see freedom again. And the others standing around should be charged for not getting the knee off neck. Its not standard to keep pressure on neck. I’ve seen it on back but not on neck like that. He had no regard for human life, none.
I wonder how many protests will break out now and cause more deaths? I hope not, lets let our justice system work.
This is such a shame for all the policemen who do their jobs right, I hope the press doesn’t paint all this way. These policemen plus their bosses need to hang. Who trained them?

The actions against this and these officers needs to be swift and strong to set an example and let everyone know it can’t happen.
And yet AGAIN, this is NOT a sign of even a significant number of officers and to say it is...is purely ignorant.

Everyone involved should be charged with murder.

Everyone involved should be charged with murder. Agree Gopher.. I am sure he wasn’t a sweetheart, but those cops are suppose to be professionals. No need for that long

What I don't get is once you had the guy in handcuffs and on the ground he wasn't going anywhere with 3-4 officers around him. What they did was just plain wrong on so many levels. It's the few bad cops like this that give ALL police a bad image. I hope there is justice for that guy.

MNPLS SWAT and FD better be on full alert, as well as the MN National Guard. This shit is likely to blow up easily considering the national fuel that will get dumped on the already tense local situation. This fucker is going to get ugly IMO, especially with the covid stress on top of it.

Not saying what the cop did is right. But before anyone judges the entire timeline needs to be investigated. Yes the cop used excessive force. And in this case the guy kneeling on the perps neck should be facing Murder in the first degree. The perp was secured and their was no reason to continue restraint the way they did.
There is a video dissing a fire fighter for walking up to a window of burning building then backing off and putting on his mask, while bystanders reach in and pull a victim to safety. What the video did not show was the fire fighter already had 2 rescues and when he reached in for this one the victim stripped his mask. Point being our society has become a victim of agenda editing.
Again for sure the guy on the neck of this perp better be facing murder 1. The others accessory to murder.

I agree with Jimmy that this does have the potential to be somewhat of a lightning rod; which is why the MPD needs to really complete a thorough investigation of what happened, do it timely and then communicate the complete set of facts to the public...and stress the words thorough, timely and communicate....
....and if the feds are involved then there's no reason it can't be done....

I agree this is what needs to be done. But even then will the black community accept what they communicate and will it reduce the tension that now exists?

I agree this is what needs to be done. But even then will the black community accept what they communicate and will it reduce the tension that now exists? It probably depends on what the thorough investigation turns up and what is done about it (other than firing) from the MPD... If the investigation turns up what we saw on the video - that one officer used unnecessary force on a suspect that was already subdued that lead to his death - and nothing further is done by the MPD or the city of Minneapolis in the form of criminal charges, then I would speculate that any current tension would escalate... If the MPD and the city file charges against the offending officers, it might depend on what type of charges were filed...

I agree though, I have my doubts that anything will quell the anger that will get whipped up by the media and racial rights activists. is over reaction and over compensation justice any more than an inadequate penalty?

Eye for an eye. When found guilty, strip'em and drop em off where this happened and let nature take its course, film it and show it to all trainees. step over the line and this will be you.
