Just an afterthought. I'll go out on a short limb and suggest that in two week's time (4/25), we'll be having an entirely different discussion. By that point, the liberal media and dems will be attacking Trump for not reopening sooner. Mark your calendars. (I hope I'm wrong). OTOH, if it gets things reopened sooner, maybe I hope I'm right??!! They will accuse him of killing people no matter what he does.

The CDC estimates 37 to 187 children die every year, not from Covid-19, from the flu. This year we have lost 105 children from the flu. Yet, we have closed every school in America. Education is vitally important and a whole generation will miss a fourth of this school year. If the schools are shut down for the rest of the year will they just be passed on to the next higher grade without completing the previous year? What about seniors trying to enter college will they have enough credits to even be considered for college entrance. It puts the entire education system a step back for everybody. Teachers will have to redo curriculum for a new class of students that aren't ready for the grade level they are in. You have to wonder about small businesses...once the country is opened again will people even have money to spend at the local stores? Will they have money to spend at barbers, salons, local restaurants, or any small local store? If people get too far behind in bills because they cannot work will have a tremendous ripple effect on everything.

I think it would be a good idea to stay in lock down while we watch what happens in Wuhan for the next 60 days after they let those people out again. Can you even imagine what would happen if this country stayed on lock down for 60 more days. The number of small businesses that would close permanently would be enormous. Unemployment payments would be through the roof. Domestic assaults would increase from people stuck inside. Keep the borders closed to foreign travelers, and reopen the country as soon as possible. As much as I agree with what you are saying we also have to remember that we are biological beings and have been battling plagues and viruses since before recorded history. This last 120 years of human travel, interaction coupled with the population explosion (X7 in 100 years) has set us up for a potentially devastating death toll....especially if COVID-19 mutates like the Spanish Flu did 100 years ago. I'm in the stay in lockdown mode until we know more camp.

My brother was a PHD in Physics and taught advanced math and physics at Johns Hopkins University for over 40 years until he died of cancer Nov of '18. He had a good friend who worked in the medical school there and something he said always scared me...said Mother Nature is a master hacker bitch and has been hacking our genome 24 hours a day/7 days a week trying to find just the right bug to take us out. For every anti biotic we come up with Mother Nature brings in two new bugs we don't have anti biotics for. That's scary as fuck to me.

These viruses are not new. Mutations are the result of information falling off a genome, not being added. No viruses are being “created”; existing ones are falling apart and therefore become dangerous (think of it this way: what’s more dangerous, a sober man driving a Ferrari or an armless drunk driving a three-wheeled pick-up?). The vast majority of viruses in existence are beneficial to life. It is the broken ones that cause problems.

They will blame him for every death once we reopen. The faces and individual stories of those who die after we reopen will be used to bludgeon Trump just like the selective stories they are running now.

Hearing that sums up where your thought process is coming from, and it's not a respectable position. Little children can be scared, it's ok. Grown men? Not ok. Man up dude, or put on panties.

I think that on some level Trump is going to leave it up to the Governors. If so, this will be interesting to watch as each Governor has to make a decision between economy and (perceived?) threat of the virus. My state's stay-at-home order expires at the end of April and to date the only significant victims of this crisis have been the economy, people who need surgery and many workers whose careers may be irreparably damaged. The death rate attributed to the virus is currently 0.002% in my state. That's right. 2 per 100,000 population. And, as we know, many routine age-related deaths by pneumonia and flu are now being attributed to Corona virus. I do feel sorry for areas that have been harder hit, but it will likely be months or years before we know the whole story on this.
