That's a shame, as I do rate him. Time to burn bridges there then. There does seem to be quite a few safeties hitting the market in this FA, which could land us with someone on an affordable deal, or as you say maybe we target one in the mid rounds of the upcoming draft. This guy is (again) an idiot. I'm guessing that the team privately and professionally told him they would not be making him a FA offer. He should have just kept his mouth shut and at least let competing teams think they might be bidding against the Vikings as well. Now, with this nonsense, he had better hope he gets multiple offers. It may well be that if he handled it professionally, and his agent approached the Vikings about coming back on a discount "prove it" deal after the dust settles, that he may have had at least some interest. Despite the stupid off field stuff, we've invested years in him and he has seen the field and produced at times.

When you see Tanehill get these kind of #'s, it really does make you pause and wonder what kind of #'s Cousins and his agent want from the Vikes....
Jeff Darlington @jeffdarlington Ryan Tannehill has agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with the Titans, per source. Here’s the numbers:
$118m total $29.5m average per year $62m full guarantee $91m total guarantee
BIG deal for Tannehill!

Ryan Tannehill has agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with the Titans, per source. Well that take one team out of the Tom Brady sweepstakes. $62m full guarantee $91m total guarantee Call me confused but wonder what the difference is between a full guarantee and a total guarantee?

Fully guaranteed is "at signing", so when Tannehill signs on Wednesday (assuming the league year starts on Wed 3/18), then the Titans automatically owe him $62m, even if they cut him. The $91m probably includes incentive guarantees (workout bonuses, etc).

Colts sign their LT Anthony Castonzo to a two-year, $33 million contract extension ( link). He's 32 and graded out as one of the best LT's in 2019 by PFF: Since 2012, Castonzo has never graded lower than 76.9 in a single season, and his lowest grade rank among offensive tackles was 27th. He was one of the three highest-graded left tackles of 2019 and one of the most valuable in the NFL. link). So, $16.5m per season for one of the best LT's in the NFL (at age 32), and Reiff will cost the Vikes $13.2m against the cap in 2020 for being an average-graded LT ( During his three years as a Viking, PFF has ranked Reiff 38th (of 57), 23rd (of 62) and 26th (of 60). He has been the definition of an average tackle - link). So the Vikings are definitely overpaying Reiff for the return they are getting....but can they get Reiff's level of LT play for cheaper this offseason (not counting the Draft which is never a guarantee)? The only way I can see it is if they can get one more league avg season out of someone like Jason Peters and then draft an OT in this year's draft (that's assuming Jason Peters can still play at a league-avg level at age 38 and you can actually draft someone like Josh Jones / Ezra Cleveland at #25 for the future)...so it's possible, just not sure how likely...

Adam Schefter @adamschefter 12m Multiple people across the league now are anticipating that the start of the league year will not be moved and it will start on time, per sources. There still are ongoing conversations, and it still could change, but there is a different tone from teams as if it is happening now.
Seems that with teams starting to spend money (ie, Titans signing Tannehill to a pretty big contract), the likelihood of moving free agency is less and less likely...
If that's the case, then the legal "tampering" window opens tomorrow, Mon, 3/16 - two days ahead of the start of the league year and free agency on Wed, 3/18.

Looks like even K's are gonna use the passing of the new CBA and all the dollars that go along with it to try and cash-in as much as they can....
Chris Tomasson @christomasson Mike Zimmer said at combine #Vikings want to bring back kicker Dan Bailey. While Vikings are continuing to talk to Bailey's camp, a source doesn't expect anything done by Monday's 11 am start of legal tampering period, which means Bailey's reps will field offers from other teams.
Can't blame anyone for wanting to get more money for themselves at all...just sorta wish the Vikes have the foresight to have extended some of their mid-tier UFA during the 2019 season, or the one's they knew they wanted to keep in 2020+ (ie, it became obvious halfway through the 2019 season that one of the main issues of Bailey's problems during the 2019 preseason was the holding like plundering noted, and when they fixed it, they fixed Bailey for the most part...it would have been cheaper to extend him in November or December than now)...
If Bailey gets a large contract from another team and the Vikes don't match, all I ask and pray is that Rick does not - and I strongly mean does NOT - spend any 2020 draft capital on a K...just sign a bunch of K's off the street and hold a big competition and sign castoffs from other teams - some of the best K's in the NFL were never drafted and were signed off the street...

Bradley Roby resigns with Texans, 3 years $36m. Waynes and Alexander will likely have a similar market if not better. Teams are desperate... The general, prevailing thought out there was that Waynes would get $10m+ a season and Alexander would command near $8m+ a season...and CB's like Roby and Darqueze Dennard (whom I was thinking the Vikes should pursue) would likely fetch half of that... I think the new CBA deal has teams / owners with dollar signs in their eyes and if you have the space/available capital, you're going to use it... ...and if you're the Vikes, well, it's just not the right time to have little space... They're really going to have to rely on three things heading into 2020 in order to compete: 1) nailing the draft, 2) younger players on their rookie contracts stepping up in a significant way, and 3) Zimmer and the coaching staff doing one heck of a job getting the most out of the team and improving their coaching/schemes/game mgt come gameday....

I thought the Raiders were serious, too?
[NBC Sports] Sources tell Chris Simms that the 49ers are not interested in Tom Brady and his final decision comes down to the Buccaneers or returning to the Patriots.

Jags aren't done burning down the house...
Neal Driscoll @nealdriscoll Jaguars are working on another trade 👀. They are in complete rebuild mode. 2:57 PM - Mar 15, 2020
It'll probably be DE Yannick Ngakoue, who many expected the Jags to tag-and-trade anyway. They tagged him, and now they're gonna trade him - and they're probably get trying to get the highest they can...
The only thing I ask is please no one in the NFC North - worried about Green Bay offering up their late 1st and other picks. That's all we need....

Rieff's base salary is $10.9M and his cap savings would be $8.8M if cut. Those numbers are more meaningful than his overall cap number in determining our plans going forward.

Ian Rapoport @rapsheet The #Patriots are giving safety and team leader Devin McCourty a 2-year deal worth $23M, sources say. He gets $17M guaranteed – keeping him in New England for his career and allowing him to play with his brother again. 7:17 PM - Mar 15, 2020
Interesting to note that PFF projected some of these DB contracts a few weeks ago at the end of Feb and projected McCourty to receive 2 yrs at $10m a season with $10m guaranteed ( link). They projected Harris to be 4 yrs at $14.1m a year w/ $31m guaranteed...so if they were lower than expected on McCourty, it makes you wonder what Harris going to get on the open market....
