This is why I don't believe Free Agency is the answer... Thuney, Scherff and Conklin will get mega money. Fortunately, there are 6-7 NFL ready tackles in this draft. In my opinion there are only three first round corners in this draft - Okudah, Henderson and Fulton. Maybe Diggs if he runs a 4.4 at his pro day. Unless one of those is still on the board at #25, BPA and biggest need is OT.
Address the secondary in FA, get Waynes and Alexander back. Cut Rhodes. Hughes with a full off-season is our starting outside corner. Boyd and Hill will continue to develop. Ideally we need a pass rushing 3T but I'm not convinced any are first round grade outside of Kinlaw and Brown. Gallimore has outstanding burst, but I get the feeling he's going to be out of our range now. Madubuike, Blacklock, Elliot.. I think these are day 2 guys that still need work.
Give me Austin Jackson in the 1st and Ezra Cleveland in the 2nd. Two athletic, high ceiling guys that will fix up the left side of that OL. With or without Cousins at the helm next year, we'd have an OL. Garoppolo, an average QB game manager, got to the Super Bowl off the back of a top 10 OL and DL.

I do think there might be a few answers in free agency in the form of "affordable" contracts (in terms of our salary cap situation anyway) that can be average contributors: OL: I've mentioned this guy a few times over the course of the offseason, but if Pittsburgh Steelers Interior OL player BJ Finney is allowed to test the market, I think the Vikes should offer him a chance at the starting LG position. He's been a backup to the Steelers solid OL for 4 seasons and when he's had his chance to start (13 total starts), he's made the most of them - some at C and some at LG. He's ready for a staring role and the great part is Pittsburgh does run hybrid power/zone concepts so he's well-versed in outside zone blocking schemes. He won't command much - probably a $5m base w/ incentives if he starts so many games; similar to what Kline got. If we don't shore up the interior OL w/ someone like Finney, I think we're forced to go interior OL within the first 3 rounds of the Draft: perhaps Netane Muti or Matt Hennessy in the 2nd (both are likely not making it to the back-end of the 3rd). FS: Harris is probably all but gone and that leaves a gaping hole at FS - a position we need filled w/ a veteran back there since it allows Zimmer to put Harrison close to the line. It's back to the Steelers yet again - this time, FS Sean Davis. He was hurt at the beginning of 2019 and that's when Pittsburgh went and traded for Minkah Fitzpatrick, which means Davis is out. He was drafted in the 2nd by the Steelers in 2016 and the Steelers used him all over the place to little success...but when they lined him at FS and asked him to cover the slot, he did really well. Here's a nice write-up on Davis from the Redskins site Hogs Haven: link. Davis will not command much - probably $6m over 2 yrs w/ incentives. CB: It's likely Waynes and Alexander are gone - possibly Xavier if the Vikes need the cap relief. But the nickel CB will be the main issue I think: Hill and Boyd are not nickel DB's and although Hughes was picked-on vs larger WR's, I still think he's better suited to outside CB which leaves a gaping hole at the nickel CB position. Enter Darqueze Dennard - former Bengals slot CB that has been very solid for Cincy since he was drafted there. He won't command much either - probably $6m - $7m tops - maybe less as teams will drool over the like of Jones and Darby in free agency while solid CB's like Dennard fly under the radar. Add in that the current Vikings DB coach came from Cincy and is familiar w/ Dennard and you have a solid connection/player combo. WR: if the Vikes don't dip into the deep 2020 WR draft pool, they can go after someone like former Titans WR Tajae Sharpe, who was never fully utilized w/ their run-heavy approach. He may want to go to a team in which he has a shot at competing for a WR2 job, but it'll be very hard for free agent WR's (outside of Amari Cooper) to get good contracts due to the deep 2020 WR draft pool, so Sharpe will have to settle for a short-term deal w/ heavy incentives and possibly test the FA pool in a year or two once the WR well has dried up and there's more demand. Even Treadwell gets targets in the Vikings offense so Sharpe will have a chance to contribute and stand out. LB: this one might not be for everyone, but I like the idea: former Bengals/Raiders LB V Burfict. He was quietly re-instated during this offseason and he still has some abilities. Per reports, he's been working hard and wants to play in the NFL and when he's been on the field, he's still a solid LB (more of a hard-hitting run-stuffer than coverage guy). Zimmer was able to get the most from Burfict during his DC days in Cincy and might be the coach to get the most out of him if he wants to try and rejuvenate his career. Obviously no one will pay any significant money due to his off-field issues so he can be had for probably close to league minimum w/ heavy incentives. Those are 5 affordable free agents that will allow the Vikes to keep a solid roster together without any huge, gaping holes entering the 2020 Draft and may lessen the impact of so many players leaving this offseason.

Trent Williams is being offered around... I know it's a risk given only 1 year left on his deal (a $12.5m cap hit) and his holdout all of last year. BUT, Reiff and a 3rd rounder this year? Redskins get a serviceable left tackle as a replacement, and a decent pick in this draft for a player who wants out and only has a year left on his deal. If it works out we could tie him down to a 3-4 year deal and for once we don't have to worry about the tackle position.
He's one of the best left tackles in the league, and Kirk obviously knows him from his Redskins days. Even if we only get him for this year I still think it's a win. No need to draft a tackle in this draft, focus on getting an athletic guard in the 2nd round like Ezra Cleveland, Austin Jackson or Matt Hennessy. Fortify that offensive line.

Our Kirk window is this year. He panics fast in collapsing pocket so if we can buy him more time he can be deadly accurate passing. This move is a no brainer if we could do it.

I don't believe he held out the entire year, just to the point where he had to report to prevent his contract from tolling. I don't believe anybody will trade for him unless they already have an agreement in place on a new contract. This would be similar to when the Redskins traded FOR Alex Smith. That's why he's been given permission to talk to other teams. So he and his agent can discuss contract extension terms. I like the idea of pursuing him, by I doubt we can afford him. Let's just keep Reiff one more year and grab Josh Jones at pick #25.

Just a quick note; the deadline for teams to designate Franchise or Transition players is this Tuesday, 3/10 at 4PM ET. At least we'll know if the Vikes plan to use either tag on Harris....
There's a bit of a "calm" before the free agency storm is set to hit the sports world in less than 10 days - "legal tampering" begins a week from tomorrow on Monday, 3/16.

I agree with you. Honestly, I don't even think Aaron is worth $30+M anymore. No QB is.
