I put this in the Combine thread, but perhaps it should be here, too. Jason La Canforna of CBS put out an article on Monday suggesting the Vikings are on the verge of "purging" their roster and because of their terrible cap situation, " their coach and GM are perceived by the peers to be on the hot seat and it's going to be impossible for Minnesota to keep this roster together in 2020." ( link) La Canforna seems to have a thing against the Vikings and Zimmer; earlier this year prior to the Saints game, he put out a similar article stating that Zimmer was basically gone if they lost their playoff game in New Orleans ( link) There's no doubt that Rick will be sending out feelers to other GM's next week for certain Vikings. Last year he was seeing what he could get for Waynes and since Trae was in purple for 2019, you can speculate he didn't get anything more than a 3rd than the team would receive in 2021 in a compensatory pick. The Combine serves as the NFL's unofficial "Winter Meetings" where front offices and coaches meet and hash over things, including possible trades, so saying the Vikings will be in the spotlight because they'll be shopping some of their players isn't anything new...because the other 31 teams will also be in the spotlight. Jason seems to be someone who likes to throw out vague smoke like this in hopes of something actually happening / sticking. We'll have to see if there's any "fire" to La Canfora's "smoke" next week....

Brees will return to New Orleans to make another run w/ Saints in 2020: link. And just like that, all that talk of Taysom Hill being the next Saints "franchise" QB goes up in smoke...the Saints were just trying to puff-up his value in hopes another team would sign him as a RFA so they'll get a 1st or 2nd Rd pick back (once they tender him anyway). It does remain to be seen what that market will bear for Teddy though. While I think Fowler's recent article on Teddy making $30m+ is ridiculous, I do feel that a team will offer him starting QB money....it just won't be at $30m+.

Seems to me that the best way to win a Super Bowl is to NOT pay your QB north of $30M. Doing so pretty much guarantees you have a weakness elsewhere that will be exploited.

Viking's Team Reporter Eric Smith held a Live Chat earlier this afternoon at 2PM ET / 1PM CT on the Vikings.com website. He mentioned that Zimmer, Spielman, scouts, other coaches and doctor were also "in the room" with him while he chatted with fans. Anyway, I had off today and was free during this time and decided to ask some questions. I didn't think any of my questions would actually go through and make it but in all honestly, pretty much all of them did except for a few. I asked everything from free agency status on some players to how everyone is feeling on certain positions in the Draft to any updates on injuries on current players (Morgan and Hughes). As you might imagine, Smith didn't give any detailed answers; however, I did come away with a few impressions: - When asked about Cook's usage, Smith mentioned the idea in 2020 is to get the ball in Cook's hands. That lead me to believe the team has no desire to trade Cook at all and he's in the team's plans for at least 2020. Everyone has a price so theoretically he could be traded, but the price would probably have to be high. - I thought it was curious the Vikes reportedly had interest in a few power-mauler OL prospects last month during the All-Star games (Shrine & Senior Bowls); one of them being Kentucky OG Logan Stenberg. Smith basically shut me down and said the Vikes will only look at "athletic" OL prospects now that Kubiak is OC. - I asked about certain physical measurments the team often gravitates towards and Smith reiterated that Zimmer and staff like the "long and rangy" DT's...so if you're looking at certain interior DL prospects like Oklahoma's N Gallimore w/ the 25th pick (who's only 6'2" and probably best viewed as a NT), you might as well keep looking. There really aren't that many "long and rangy" type of DT's this year outside of Kinlaw which is one reason why I asked it. - Asked about possible franchise/transition tags and I got the feeling they won't be using it (ie, they will either sign Harris to an extension or else they won't afford him). - Didn't receive any responses to multiple attempts at asking whether Zimmer and co. prefer using zone coverage or press-man going forward (remember, Zimmer loved himself press-man DB's and then went to zone a bunch in 2019; perhaps to protect against big plays). Wonder if Zimmer got upset at the questions about "his coverage" and told Smith not to reply. Anyway, I thought it was a nice way to interact w/ the team for fans and Vikings.com still has the transcript of the Chat up right now if you want to check it out (and check out the questions I asked/responses I received - I did use my "Uncle" moniker, BTW): www.vikings.com/news/live-chat-2020-offseason-and-pre-combine-q-a-at-1-pm.

I posted on top of Page 4 that Jason La Canforna is throwing smoke out there that the Vikings are on the verge of a "roster purge"... Now, Colin Cowerd of FOX Sports is reporting that Diggs is unhappy in Minnesota and the Vikings are looking to move him for the right pick. Wouldn't be a wise move to dump Diggs in my opinion.

There's a thread on the SKOL reddit site that states Diggs deleted everything Viking-related on his Instragram account - linkReally doesn't mean anything - we've all seen Diggs tweet cryptic stuff before and nothing becomes of it... Like P1 mentioned, La Canforna and Cowherd aren't exactly Schefter and Mort when it comes to breaking NFL stories. It seems the closer we get to Combine week, the more intense the Diggs/trade smoke is getting...

And speaking of "reliable sources", found this on Rube Chat of all places... Does Denver even have a qb? Drew Lock came on for Denver late in the 2019 season after being activated off of IR. He went 4-1 as a starter in 2019 and in the process, tied with John Elway for the most Broncos franchise wins by a rookie QB with 4. Yeah, they have their QB and he's in Year 2 of his 4-yr rookie contract (not 5 since he was drafted in the 2nd in 2019). If the Broncos are serious about competing behind Lock, then they have to maximize their opportunities in Yrs 2 & 3 because you can extend rookies drafted in the 2nd Rd+ after the 3rd year and Lock's agent is gonna want starting QB money after the 2021 season if he's the franchise starter. And that means maximizing Lock's weapons around him. The Bills are in a similar situation entering Yr 3 of Josh Allen's cheap rookie contract except he was drafted in the 1st and has a 5th yr option. Denver has three 3rd Round picks and two 4th's. Buffalo has two 5th's and three 6th's. If Denver came in with their 1st and a late 3rd or if Buffalo came in with their 1st and a 5th and 6th, Rick will probably listen. If there's any smoke to this, you have to believe Rick will be busy fielding offers next week in Indy.
